Driveways

A driveway is mostly what you cannot see: the depth of the dig, the sub-base and how the water leaves it. We get that right first, then lay the surface you chose.

Grey block paving laid across a front garden

Block paving is the most repairable: if a section sinks, it can be lifted and relaid. Resin bound gives a smooth, permeable finish that lets rainwater through. Gravel is the quickest and cheapest, with a stabilising grid underneath so it does not rut.

For front gardens the drainage rule matters: a new driveway over 5 square metres must be permeable or drain into the garden, otherwise you need planning permission. Resin bound and gravel are permeable; block paving can be, with permeable blocks.

We recently laid a resin driveway in Pinner.

Questions about driveways

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?

Not if the surface is permeable or the water drains to a lawn or border in your garden. Over 5 square metres of non-permeable surface draining to the road needs permission. We plan it the permitted way.

Can you repair my existing driveway?

Yes. Send us photos on WhatsApp and we tell you whether a repair or a relay makes more sense.

Is a dropped kerb included?

A dropped kerb is approved by your council and usually done by their approved contractor. We can lay the driveway to meet it.
